And of Clay Are We Created

Isabel Allende's story, "And of clay are we created", is unfortunately based on a true story of the girl you see in this picture. Ofcourse, Allende adapt this incident to a story. Writer showed the reporter character in her story as a hero, but in real life do the reporters really care other people?
I am sure the early times in their career, reporters have some humanity but to be able to be successful, they probably transform themselves to soleless machines like their cameras. I am not telling it is reporters fault, but in order not to fight with their conscience, they choose to be soleless. They report wars, scarcity, poverty, and as in this case, a slow death of a little girl. No doubt, some people has to do this job, and in real life it is not very easy to act like a hero. However, it is not easy to only report some incidents, too. Hence, there is an essential probem about reporters and  I cannot give a solution, but I am againts the idea that reporters have to be soleless machines.

  1. well it must be really hard to witness all the suffering that reporters get exposed to - so they have to have some kind of "coping mechanism"s, but I think they can't really do a good job if they lose their souls as you say...
